Cork Race Track History & Information

Cork racecourse is only a few miles from Buttevant where in 1752 the phrase steeplechasing was coined at a historic race in 1752. Racing began in the Mallow region in 1777. The previous Cork course closed in 1917, leaving a void in Ireland's largest county, and in 1924 Mallow racecourse was formed. The facilities were upgraded in 1997.
